Melissa Coats, PLMHC, Trauma Focused, Humanistic, Play, Mindfulness and Existential Therapies

Everyone goes through difficult seasons in life, and I believe that we try to do the best we can with what we have. Yet sometimes going through these difficult times can cause us to feel stuck, lost, unsure of ourselves or afraid. Healing is a process, not an event and it can be tiring to try and face these issues alone.

I believe in the healing qualities of a therapeutic relationship and love to create an authentic, welcoming environment for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, struggles and triumphs. We all have certain strengths, some that we didn’t know that we had until we face adversity. We are resilient beings and I believe in drawing on the strengths within ourselves to overcome and thrive.

Professionally, I hold a Masters degree in Professional Counseling from the University of Georgia. I consider myself an integrative therapist and draw from cognitive, trauma focused, humanistic, play, mindfulness and existential therapies to best serve the needs of my clients. I enjoy working with individuals and families. One of my favorite forms of therapy is group work because of the powerful nature of the group process. If you are interested in group therapy, please contact me to find out about available openings in our groups.

I am passionate about creating a welcoming, safe and non-judgmental space clients can strive to maintain the highest standard of confidentiality. Therapeutic relationships are built and nurtured on trust and I care very deeply about making sure I can provide a space that offers these qualities.

Personally, I am married and enjoy music, traveling, and crafting. I often find crafting and creativity to be very therapeutic and therefore like to incorporate creative measures in my work with clients. If we have the opportunity to meet, you will quickly learn that I also adore spending time with my dog Sulley and find so much joy and comfort in his company.

If you are ready to begin your therapy, or you have further questions, please give our office a call at (904) 992-9930.
