1SMBULLET Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) :
This form of treatment focuses on examining the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It is a psychotherapeutic approach that addresses dysfunctional emotions, maladaptive behaviors and cognitive processes.  CBT is a  goal-oriented, systematic process that works well for those suffering from depression or anxiety.  It is problem-focused whereby the client and I work together to address the maladaptive behaviors, thoughts or emotions and select specific strategies to overcome any challenges.

Therapy sessions focus on problem solving and often homework is assigned to help clients reinforce the techniques being introduced.

1SMBULLET Couples and Relationship Counseling:

Couples counseling helps you achieve your greatest wellness in your relationship
with a partner, spouse, friend, or roommate.  Your therapist will provide a
comfortable, private, and non-judgmental setting. This enables you to explore
your goals and concerns, helping you gain important perspectives and skills to
improve your relationship. Common topics include communication and conflict
resolution, problem solving, sexual issues, learning to get needs met in healthy
ways, and *pre-marriage counseling. Counseling helps you enhance your
relationship or perhaps thoughtfully go your separate ways.

Cost per couples counseling session: $150 per 50 minute session

1SMBULLET EMDR:

This acronym stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.  This integrative psychotherapy approach has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma or symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). EMDR is used for individuals who have experienced moderate to severe trauma which remains unresolved. When a traumatic or distressing experience occurs, it may overwhelm normal cognitive and neurological coping mechanisms leaving the memory and associated stimuli unprocessed and stored in an isolated memory network.

The goal of EMDR therapy is to process these distressing memories, reducing their lingering effects and allowing clients to develop more adaptive coping mechanisms.  The therapist assists the client through an 8- step protocol that includes having the client recall distressing images while receiving one of several types of bilateral sensory input including side to side eye movements.  This therapy was originally developed to treat adults suffering from PTSD, however, it is also used to treat other conditions of stress, anxiety and grief.

1SMBULLET IADC:

Induced After Death Communication is an adaptation of EMDR pioneered by Dr. Allan Botkin, PsyD as part of his work with the Veteran’s Administration treating veterans diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).   IADC has expanded to all individuals suffering from grief and loss over the past 20 years.  IADC therapy directly targets the emotions of  sadness and guilt attached to unresolved grief through which Dr. Botkin termed Core-Focused therapy.

Treatment consists of the therapist and client working together to focus on all aspects of the Core sadness surrounding the loss.  Series of  eye movements are administered while the client focuses on the negative emotions surrounding their loss.  The goals of the therapy session are twofold:  Accessing and processing residual grief, sadness and guilt, which helps reduce the negative effects of the loss, and helps induce a state of mind whereby the client may be more receptive to the phenomenon commonly referred to as the ADC or After Death Communication.

Dr. Fenton was trained and certified in IADC  by Dr. Allan Botkin and is currently involved in an independent IADC research study being conducted through The University of Virginia Department of Perceptual Studies.  Sessions are two hours in length and begin with a thorough intake.

1SMBULLET Individual Counseling:

Individual therapy is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment-to explore their feelings, beliefs or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons.  I work with clients for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy.

Cost of psychotherapy sessions- $150 per 50 minute session

1SMBULLET Grief Counseling:

This form of therapy is about coming alongside the one who is hurting. As no one person is the same, neither is how each person grieves and how the individual resolves the emptiness.  In grief counseling, I work with clients to provide support and understanding as you move through the personal process of envisioning life without the loved one.  Grief counseling is never about minimizing the loss you are experiencing, and it is never about minimizing you as a person.  Even if you are still grieving over a loss many years ago, I will meet you where you are, and help guide you through the next step, towards a better life, moving through this time of pain and being able to find some joy in your life again. We will address any unresolved areas of life that may be making the grieving process more difficult.  Ultimately, through grief counseling, I want to see you, the client, find a sense of enjoyment and purpose in life that both honors the memory of what is lost, but also allows you to continue to invest in life and the relationships in your life.

Cost of psychotherapy sessions- $150 per 50 minute session

1SMBULLET Grief Group Therapy:

This is a process- oriented psychotherapy and support group for individuals who have or are experiencing a significant loss.  The primary goal of the group is to provide members with a space to engage in their individual grieving process.  Group members will be offered a safe place for expression, reflection, exploration, as well as support for coping with the loss.  Dr. Fenton will be facilitating the group.  It is a closed group that meets biweekly for 8 weeks. Groups run 2 times per year.

Cost of each session-$30 per 90 minute session

1SMBULLET RoHun Therapy:

RoHun is a transpersonal/spiritual psychotherapy that works to remove faulty thoughts and feelings which create mental, emotional, physical and spiritual blockages. Ro Hun takes you into a deep exploration of self as a systematic and rapid-acting psychotherapy for personal growth and change. As both transpersonal psychology and an energy-based method of healing, Ro Hun uses the electromagnetic fields surrounding the physical body to work simultaneously to integrate the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies.  It combines both psychological and metaphysical spiritual techniques in a rare and unique heart-centered holistic process.  This is not a talk-therapy method.

Cost per 2 hour session- $250 (3-5 sessions)

1SMBULLET Sex Therapy:

Sex therapy is a form of talk therapy where sexual concerns, dysfunctions or intimacy challenges are addressed.  As a sex therapist, I have a particular awareness of sexuality that rises above personal opinion or personal experiences. Treatment is always with the client(s) in a collaborative manner directly addressing intimacy concerns rather than assuming that when the individuals in a relationship work out their relationship issues, the sex will simply fall into place.   Sessions can be for either couples or individuals.

Sex therapists  have knowledge about the physiological processes that are a part of human sexuality. We often consult with physicians to address the entirety of the causes of the client’s sexual concerns.

Sexual orientations, transgender, addictions and dysfunctions are also under the scope of sex therapy.

As a sexologist, I hold a positive outlook on the beneficial influence that sexuality can have on people’s lives and the world in general.   Length of treatment is determined based on the symptoms and the dedication and desire of the client to do the work necessary in achieving his or her goals.
